Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that contains numerous amenities on top of the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
